bronze-statues

Bronze statues are a gorgeous addition to any indoor or outdoor environment. Unlike stone or wood, this metal has a special artistic appeal to the individual, and many homeowners take advantage of its durability and lightweight. When we see a bronze statue on someone’s property, we often think that the homeowners must be rich. The double lion statues that stand tall outside a mansion’s front gate tell us about the power and majestic qualities of these guardians. However, you don’t have to own a mansion in order to be able to afford a beautiful bronze statue. There has been a resurgence in these sculptures and other works of art, so it is common to see many homeowners these days dressing up their environments with these magical figures.

Bronze has an intriguing history, and it is because of this history that we are able to appreciate things like sculptures and other artwork. The creation of sculptures and artworks is one of the most ancient art forms around the world. Bronze was used for statues, coins, and other decorative objects dating back to 3000 B.C. The Chinese revered this metal as one of the most important in the 14th century B.C. It was the Chinese who developed the “lost wax method” when the Shang Dynasty ruled back in 2000 B.C. Most pieces were produced by this method. Buddhism was the religion that gave rise to bronze figure casting and this took place in the Sun period (960-1279 A.D.).

The Romans also used this metal to design amazing statues back during the Ottoman period. Just search through a history book or an encyclopedia and you will probably find pictures of the Roman Empire, along with the gorgeous sculptures and architecture of this period. Africa also saw its bronze period. The Benin culture which resided in southern Nigeria between 1400-1800 A.D. created fantastic statues and objects better known as Benin bronzes. By the 16th and 17th centuries West Africa was producing numerous statues and ritual objects to signify their culture.

By the 19th and 20th centuries the use of this metal for artwork had declined. People started to use direct carving instead of bronze casting. Today, this metal is revered as a beautiful, ancient art form and is cherished as a symbol of artistic freedom throughout society. Bronze statues are making a comeback, as more and more people desire to decorate their properties with this ancient art form. Many homeowners place these figures on their landscape to represent freedom of expression and their love of art.

It is not uncommon to find these objects on front lawns, stairs, gardens, or even by fountains. Others incorporate these figures into their home’s art gallery or even as a sidepiece to complement a room’s décor theme.
